Uncle Mordo (Mordehay) was born in 1913 in Istanbul, Turkey, to Zimbul and Eliya Gambash. He had a brother (Nisim) and two sisters (Fortune and Regina).

Around 1929, he immigrated to France and settled in Thonon-Les-Bains.
In French, his surname is pronounced as Gambache.

He married Aunt Suzan Molho in France. They had five children: Elda, Elie, Monique, Momo and Didi.

During World War II, they luckily survived the Nazi aggression against Jews thanks to French neighbours who sheltered them.

Uncle Mordo and his sons had a clothing store: "Diffusion Gambache", on the Main Street in Thonon-Les-Bains.
